Reimagining of Nico's Nibelungen (feat. Roger Moutenot and Matt Glassmeyer)

about

Not so long ago my friend and colleague Roger Moutenot unearthed some tracks from a session he’d done with Nico among which were two rough mixes of a song called “Nibelungen”. One version featured voice and harmonium, the other voice alone. Unbeknownst to Roger both had seen release on a reissue of Nico’s The Marble Index from 1991. But without knowing that he had begun to wonder what it would be like to properly “finish” the vocal only version of the track. He enlisted my help. We built layer upon layer of organs and synthesizers in an effort to remain in the spirit of the original while creating something new. At a certain point we enlisted the help of another friend, Matt Glassmeyer. The stunning horn arrangement you’ll hear is his. I’m making the track available for streaming but not download. There’s no money to be made by anyone from this but I’m very proud of the results and feel it’s beautiful and worth hearing and appropriate for the coming cold.
